Ronald B. Goldberg, MD, is a Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he serves as Associate Director of the Diabetes Research Institute and Director of the Lipid Disorders Unit. He also has a secondary appointment in the Department of Biochemistry and the Department of Molecular Biology. In addition, as Co-Director of the State of Florida and University of Miami’s Southeastern Florida Regional Diabetes Program, Dr. Goldberg is responsible for organizing comprehensive education programs for health professionals and medical students throughout the state. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr. Goldberg received his bachelor’s degree and his medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand. He moved to the United States for his specialty training in Endocrinology at the University of Chicago and in 1980, Dr. Goldberg joined the University of Miami's Department of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism where he has remained to this time. Dr. Goldberg's research interests are focused primarily in two areas: (1) the causes and treatment of lipid disorders and blood lipid abnormalities and (2) the identification of early changes in the development of diabetes and its complications. He has authored numerous scientific papers in both of his research interests.
