| Biography: Marc Sabatine, MD, MPH |
Marc S. Sabatine, MD, MPH is an Associate Physician in the Cardiovascular Medicine Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, an Affiliate Physician in Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, an Investigator in the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) Study Group, and an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Sabatine graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College and received his medical degree magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School. He subsequently did his Internal Medicine residency, Chief Residency, and Cardiology fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. During his research fellowship, he received a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Sabatine’s primary research interest is in acute coronary syndromes. He was the Co-Principal Investigator of CLARITY (Clopidogrel as Adjunctive Reperfusion Therapy) – TIMI 28, a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that evaluated the efficacy and safety of clopidogrel in 3491 subjects undergoing fibrinolysis for ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Dr. Sabatine was the lead author both on the primary results paper that was presented at ACC 2005 and published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the PCI-CLARITY results paper that was presented at ESC 2005 and published in JAMA. Dr. Sabatine also has a particular interest in biomarkers, genetic epidemiology, and proteomics for risk stratification. His research endeavors in those fields are supported by several grants from the National Institutes of Health and his involvement in the Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center on Atherosclerosis at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Sabatine has authored or coauthored over 40 original, peer-reviewed research articles and more than 30 chapters, editorials and reviews. Dr. Sabatine has been awarded the John Harvard Scholarship for Academic Achievement, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship, the American College of Cardiology/Merck Adult Cardiology Fellowship, the William A. Schreyer Fellowship in Cardiology, the Richard A. Gorlin Fellowship in Cardiovascular Medicine and Science, the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Award, and the Lerner Young Faculty Award. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and is a member of the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Sabatine serves as a manuscript reviewer for several major medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. |
