| Biography: Joseph A. Vassalotti, MD, FASN |
Joseph A. Vassalotti, MD, FASN, is the National Kidney Foundation's Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Vassalotti also serves as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Advancing the chronic kidney disease (CKD) public health agenda in the U.S. at the state level is the major focus. At NKF, Dr. Vassalotti’s responsibilities include medical oversight of the operations of the Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP), which identifies early CKD in high risk individuals. His committee service includes the Fistula First National Clinical Workgroup, Steering Committee for National Quality Forum (Consensus Standards for ESRD Care), American Medical Association-Renal Physicians Association physician performance measures CKD Workgroup, the outcomes committee for the Frequent Hemodialysis Network Trial of the National Institutes of Health, the Coordinating Panel of the National Kidney Disease Education Program (NKDEP) National Institutes of Health, and the Advisory Group for the CDC CKD Surveillance Project. He is also Co-Principal Investigator for the CDC’s demonstration project to identify individuals at high risk for CKD in the United States using state-based screening. |
