Dr. Becker is a Professor of Medicine, Duke University School of Medicine, Co-Director for the Duke Comprehensive Center for Hemostasis and Thrombosis, Director of the Cardiovascular Thrombosis Center, Duke Clinical Research Institute and Director of the Duke Health Systems Cardiogenetics Thrombosis Clinic.
The Duke Comprehensive Center for Hemostasis and Thrombosis, one of eight centers of excellence in the United States supported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, is designed to prevent and reduce the complications experienced by persons with either inherited or acquired thrombophilias. The Center includes a multi-disciplinary team of health-care specialists representing pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, neurology, women’s health, hematology and cardiology; state of the art clinical research program, and a resource for the education of patients, families, pharmacists and a wide-range of health- care professionals.
The Duke Cardiovascular Thrombosis Research Center is a multi-disciplinary program within the Duke Clinical Research Institute developed for the comprehensive study of thrombotic disorders of the venous, arterial and microcirculatory systems. Collaborations with the Duke Coagulation and Hemostasis Core Laboratory, Center for Human Genetics and Institute for Genome Science and Policy provide a strong foundation for basic, translational, clinical (Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4) and population-based scientific investigation.
The Duke Cardiogenetics Clinic offers techniques for the diagnosis and management of adults with a wide range of inherited conditions, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, familial cardiomyopathy, long Q-T Syndrome, thrombophilias and genetic mutations which influence drug safety and efficacy.
Dr. Becker is an NIH-funded clinician-scientist serving as a principal investigator and co-principal investigator on thrombosis, hemostasis, vascular biology and pharmacogenetic-based networks, RO-1's, Program Project and RC grants. As a faculty member of the DCRI and its advanced biomarker program, Dr. Becker is actively involved in industry, foundation and government-supported clinical and translational investigations.
Dr. Becker is a member of numerous professional societies, including the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, American Heart Association, Vascular Biology Working Group and Writing group for the American College of Cardiology Pharmacogenetics Committee.
