| Biography: D. Wayne Overby, MD |
Dr. Overby grew up in Eastern North Carolina. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Army, he returned to North Carolina where he pursued his undergraduate and medical degrees at East Carolina University. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, and a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he remained to become a member of the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery specializing in bariatric and hernia surgery. His research interests include hypercoagulability and prevention of embolic complications in patients undergoing bariatric surgery, hernia repair, and general surgical outcomes research. He has authored or co-authored a number of book chapters, peer reviewed publications and guidelines covering topics in general and bariatric surgery. |
