Dr. David Aguilar received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Aguilar’s academic and professional interests have centered on the relationship between diabetes and cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on the adverse association of heart failure and diabetes. He has authored or co-authored multiple abstracts, peer-reviewed journal articles, and review articles in this area. He is a principal investigator, co-investigator, and national coordinator for multiple clinical trials examining potential mechanisms and diabetic therapies to lower burden of cardiovascular disease in patients with diabetes.
Dr. Aguilar is also an active member of multiple cardiology associations (American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association) and has served on the American Heart Association Board of Directors (Houston), as Co-Chair for the American Heart Association’s Hispanic Outreach Task Force, and as a member of AHA Council of Clinical Cardiology leadership subcommittees.
