About

Dr. Daniel Muñoz is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He currently serves as Interim Co-Director for Clinical Affairs for the Division of Cardiology and as the Associate Executive Medical Director of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute. His research interests are focused on leveraging pragmatic clinical trials to identify and implement innovative strategies for lowering cardiovascular risk and improving patient outcomes in both high-risk primary prevention and secondary prevention settings. Dr. Muñoz helped lead the Southern Community Cohort Study (SCCS) Polypill trial, a single-site randomized trial assessing the effectiveness of a polypill approach to primary prevention in an at-risk, underserved U.S. subpopulation. Dr. Muñoz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a B.A. in economics. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and additionally holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He then completed internal medicine residency and a year as Assistant Chief of Service at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Following his postdoctoral fellowship training in cardiology at Hopkins, he completed a year of clinical research fellowship at the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He has been at Vanderbilt since 2012.
