About

Dr Gottlieb is Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Director, Clinical Research in Cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology.

Dr Gottlieb received his medical degree from Brown University and trained at the University of Chicago and Mt Sinai in New York. He has been chair of the Education Committee of the Heart Failure Society of America and member of other committees of that Association. He has served on the board of the Maryland chapter of the American College of Cardiology

Dr. Gottlieb has pursued clinical research in heart failure throughout his career focusing on the physiology and therapy of the disease. This has included a particular interest in neurohormonal activation and renal function in HF patients. He has studied the impact of adenosine antagonists and other medications and interventions on renal function and the physiology of renal function in heart failure patients. He investigates new therapies, now working on new inotropes, vasodilators, and devices. He was United States Principal Investigator of the ground-breaking MERIT-HF evaluation of beta blockers. He has published about the interaction of depression and heart failure, and he has investigated the effects of home telemonitoring, sleep abnormalities, amtloidosis, and genetic polymorphisms in heart failure patients
