Does the type of diet you follow really matter for weight loss? This is just one of the questions Dr. Sacks will address in his keynote presentation.

Does the type of diet you follow really matter for weight loss? Are there any advantages to such diets as low glycemic, or high or low protein? These are some of the questions Dr. Frank Sacks will address in his keynote presentation at the 10th Annual CMHC that will focus on healthy and unhealthy dietary patterns. In addition to a discussion of some of today’s popular diets such as DASH and the Mediterranean diet as well as guideline recommendations from the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology, Dr. Sacks will direct attention to the controversies surrounding such topics as saturated fat (is it still an atherogenic risk factor?) and sodium intake (is there a middle ground?), and why some of the more recently published reports that gained media attention were faulty.

Dr. Sacks will also discuss results of the recent trial, OmniCarb, for which he served as principal investigator, evaluating the effect of carbohydrates on insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk factors.
