Against the backdrop of escalating rates of obesity, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia is an increasingly relevant issue facing clinicians in their routine practice and cannot be ignored. Our faculty of nationally recognized experts will address current controversies in triglyceride management with the goal of providing the insight, strategies and practical guidance to effectively manage persistently elevated triglycerides in patients who remain at high CV risk. This video webcast will evaluate the available triglyceride-lowering therapies, with a focus on omega-3 fatty acids, comparing and contrasting data on their safety, tolerability, differential effects on lipid-lowering and cardio-protective benefits.
To improve patient outcomes through early identification and intervention strategies for patients with, or at risk of developing, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
This activity is designed for advanced-level clinicians responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of cardiometabolic risk.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Evaluate current guideline recommendations concerning lipid management in patients with elevated triglycerides and/or mixed dyslipidemia to clinical practice.
Describe the genetic and physiologic mechanisms by which elevated triglycerides impact cardiovascular risk.
Assess the impact of diet, nutrient intake, and therapeutic lifestyle change in modifying elevated triglycerides and associated cardiovascular risk.
Evaluate the safety, efficacy, tolerability, differential lipid-lowering effects and cardiovascular outcomes data on available therapeutic strategies for lowering triglycerides, including niacin, fibrates, and prescription omega-3 fatty acids.
Enhance clinical decision-making when managing patients with elevated triglycerides and/or mixed dyslipidemia to optimize patient outcomes.
