About

Michael Wilkinson, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, is a cardiologist and lipidologist who leads the advanced lipid treatment program at UC San Diego Health.

Dr. Wilkinson’s research interests include lifestyle change and novel drug-therapies for patients who are at risk for cardiovascular disease, including those with cardiometabolic diseases and all forms of dyslipidemia, including elevated lipoprotein(a). He has received grant support for his research from the American College of Cardiology and National Institutes of Health, among other agencies.

 

Education and Training

Dr. Wilkinson completed a cardiovascular disease fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he served as chief fellow. He did his residency in internal medicine at The University of Chicago. He earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Wilkinson is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography, and clinical lipidology.

Professional Highlights

Dr. Wilkinson currently serves as a member of the Pacific Lipid Association Board of Directors and is an Editorial Board Member of the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
