PCOS a Predictor of Metabolic Risk in First-Degree Relatives

PCOS is not only a powerful predictor of type 2 diabetes in young women but may also be an indicator of metabolic risk in a patient’s first-degree relatives, according to Dr. Andrea Dunaif of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, who spoke at the 10th Annual Cardiometabolic Health Congress. Excessive risk for type 2 diabetes can even be discovered in daughters of PCOS patients as young as 8 to 12 years old who aren’t yet exhibiting any symptoms. Read more here.
