About

Dr. Bradley M. Denker is an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Clinical Chief in the Renal Division at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). He is also the Chief of Nephrology and the Associate Chief of Medical Specialties at Atrius Health. He lectures regularly at Internal Medicine and Nephrology CME courses on chronic kidney disease, fluids and electrolytes, acute renal failure and hypertension. He has busy out patient Renal Clinics at the Beth Israel and Atrius Health and is working on the use of electronic medical records to improve recognition and management of chronic kidney disease in addition to developing new care delivery models to improve quality and reduce costs in the dialysis patient population.

Education and Training

Dr. Denker graduated from State University of New York Medical School in Syracuse, and completed his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He did a one-year fellowship in hematology at Johns Hopkins in the Laboratory of Dr. Peter Agre and was the lead author on the paper that ultimately led to the discovery of Aquaporins (2003 Nobel Prize). Dr. Denker completed his nephrology fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1988 t0 1992 and worked on G protein signaling in the laboratory of Dr. Eva Neer. Dr. Denker moved to BIDMC in 2011 and he continued to supervise a basic research laboratory in the Renal Division until 2012, where is work focused on cell signaling in epithelial cells and the role of G proteins in acute kidney injury and polycystic kidney disease.

Professional Highlights

Dr. Denker is a past president of the Medical Advisory Board for the National Kidney Foundation serving New England and has authored numerous chapters and textbooks on kidney disease, including "Renal Pathophysiology, The Essentials," with Helmut Rennke.
