About

Dr. Dena E. Rifkin is a professor of clinical medicine and leads the preclinical foundations of medicine curriculum and the renal pathophysiology course at the University of California San Diego of Medicine.

Her research has focused on the interplay between chronic kidney disease and hypertension in older adults and relevant patient-centered outcomes in these areas.

She previously chaired the National Kidney Foundation’s Spring Clinical Meetings. She also served as the section editor of creative non-fiction essays for the American Journal of Kidney Diseases for a decade.
