About

Dr. Peterson is the Fred Cobb, Distinguished Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology, past Director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute, and a DukeMed Scholar. Dr Peterson is a recognized leader in cardiovascular clinical research research, with over 1200 peer-reviewed publications in the field. He is the PI of the Data Coordinating Centers’ for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) National Cardiac Surgery Database, the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiac Database (ACC-NCDR) and the American Heart Association’s Get With the Guidelines Database (AHA GWTG). Dr Peterson is also the PI of several ongoing multicenter clinical trials, registries and implementation programs. Dr Peterson also participates on multiple national guideline and performance measure development groups. Dr Peterson is also a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), the Association of American Physicians (AAP), and the Association of University Cardiologists (AUC). Dr. Peterson received AHA Meritorious Achievement, the AHA Distinguished Achievement and the AHA Lifetime Achievement in Outcomes Research Awards. He has been identified as one of the world's top 1% of cited researchers in the world for the past 5 years. He is also a Contributing Editor to Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
