About

Dr. Hope Barkoukis, RDN, LD, FAND is Chair of the Department of Nutrition, at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine and is the creator/ faculty lead for the Jack, Joseph, Morton Mandel Wellness & Preventive Care Pathway program for medical students. The Pathway introduces medical students to stress reduction techniques, social well-being habits, lifestyle medicine, nutrition and culinary medicine. In 2018 the Pathway received an award for Innovation in Teaching future health care professionals from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, https://www.healthiergeneration.org/take_action/businesses/healthcare/innovation_award_for_health_care_provider_training_and_education/.

Dr. Barkoukis has received many teaching awards including the 2019 Outstanding Dietetic Educator from NDEP and the Ohio Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Top Prof, and the John S. Diekman Graduate Award for teaching excellence. She has advanced training in culinary arts and has presented countless culinary nutrition sessions for consumer and professional audiences, including recently for over 300 attendees at the national Food, Nutrition and Exhibition, fall 2020. Hope’s research areas include aging and glucose metabolism, culinary medicine in medical education, lifestyle interventions in preparation for pregnancy and liver disease.
