Sara Gilbertson Mertz is a Certified Nurse Midwife and Clinical Lead for the Perinatal Mental Health at Henry Ford Health System in Metro-Detroit. Her clinic, POST, promotes the advancement of clinical management of perinatal mental health conditions through an integrated approach to treatment. The POST Clinic offers additional therapeutic support to childbearing woman with depression, anxiety, trauma, poor social support, a poor prognosis or perinatal loss.
Sara is a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University (BA in Psychology, BS in Nursing) and the University of Michigan (MS), and is certified in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International. She serves on Mind the Gap, a national perinatal mental health work group, on the board of Postpartum Support International’s Michigan Chapter and chairs the American College of Nurse Midwives Perinatal Mental Health Task Force. She lectures and advocates for women’s mental health at universities, health care centers, and conferences.
Sara lives in Saginaw, Michigan with her family and goofy yellow lab. She considers her family, friends, fellow midwives, catching babies, nature, her therapist, and generous glasses of Sauvignon Blanc to be life-sustaining.
