General Session Highlights Announced for 11th Annual Cardiometabolic Health Congress

Boston, August 17, 2016 – The Cardiometabolic Health Congress has announced General Session Highlights for the 11th Annual CMHC, taking place October 5-8, 2016, at the Sheraton in Boston, MA. Each year, the CMHC provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for healthcare professionals to stay informed on the latest scientific and clinical developments in the overlapping disease areas of cardiovascular and metabolic disease through a comprehensive and integrated agenda.

Session I, taking place on Thursday, October 6, focuses on Dyslipidemia, Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Disease, and includes presentations and discussion on late-breaking clinical trials and updates from the FDA; a Keynote presentation by Dr. Peter Libby on the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors, specifically, triglycerides; and the latest in lipid-modifying and antithrombotic therapies.

On Friday, October 7, Hypertension, Cardio-Renal, and Heart Failure comprise Session II, with the recent SPRINT trial, the results of which left clinicians with many unanswered questions, providing the basis for many of the presentations. Session II will include a Keynote from Dr. Suzanne Oparil, one of SPRINT’s principal investigators; patient case discussions; a presentation by Dr. Clyde Yancy on heart failure in the context of SPRINT; and an examination of SGLT2 inhibitors as second-line therapy. Later that day, Diabetes Management takes the stage in Session III. Keynote speaker Dr. C. Ronald Kahn will discuss the gut microbiome as a modifier of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome; results of CV outcomes trials and diabetes therapies, the implications of recent trials on the management of diabetes, and future directions of insulin and non-insulin therapies alike will be discussed.

The 11th Annual CMHC will conclude Saturday, October 8 with Session IV, which will cover Obesity, Lifestyle Management, and Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Subodh Verma will present a Keynote on obesity fat distribution and cardiovascular risk; Drs. Lee Kaplan and Francesco Rubino will discuss the newest evidence on metabolic surgery; and Dr. Caroline Apovian will present the latest on obesity treatments and pharmacology guidelines for clinicians.
