For the last 25 years Dr. Volek has conducted various nutrition and exercise training studies including highly-managed free-living and controlled-feeding experiments covering a broad range of populations and analyzing a wide array of physiological responses. Much of his research has focused on elucidating how humans adapt to diets restricted in carbohydrate, and more recently exogenous ketones, with a dual focus on clinical and performance applications. His scholarly work includes 360+ peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts/chapters and five books. His laboratory’s approach spans bench to bedside, bench to battlefield, and bench to ballfield. As a translational outcome of his work he co-founded Virta Health that focuses on reserving prediabetes and type 2 diabetes at scale.
