About

Dr. William E. Boden is Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and Lecturer in Medicine, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the Physician Research Lead for the New England VA Healthcare System and Scientific Director of the Clinical Trials Network and Senior Investigator at the VA Boston’s Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiology, Research, and Informatics Center (MAVERIC).

Dr. Boden’s principal research interests include studies in acute coronary syndromes (ACS), chronic coronary syndromes (CCS), post-MI secondary prevention, and dyslipidemia. He has worked as a clinical trialist for over 3 decades and has served in a leadership capacity as the study chair of the VANQWISH trial in ACS, study chair of the landmark COURAGE Trial, co-chair of the NIH-funded AIM-HIGH of niacin plus statin therapy, and most recently as a co-PI of the large, international, NIH-funded ISCHEMIA Trial.

Education and Training

He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and in the subspecialty of Cardiovascular Disease. Since 1979, Dr. Boden has held university academic appointments at Brown University, Tufts Medical Center, Boston University, the University of Connecticut, and Albany Medical College.

Professional Highlights

Dr. Boden has lectured widely (both nationally and internationally) and has written over 450 peer-reviewed publications, original articles, books, chapters, and abstracts. He has been selected as one of the Best Doctors in America continuously since 2003. He is a member of several professional Cardiology organizations and editorial boards of European Journal of Cardiology, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, American Journal of Medicine, World Journal f Cardiology, and Clinical Cardiology. Dr. Boden also serves as an ad hoc journal reviewer for New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, American Heart Journal, the Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, and JAMA Internal Medicine.
